House fire leaves 4 dead, including 2-year-old

Mary Wandia Migwi, a Kenyan police officer’s three children and nanny were killed in a house fire that was started by a candle.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Saturday night, May 1, in Patawa, Nakuru Town East, while the officer was on duty.

According to Sir William Digital TV PAGE, he wrote on his wall that the cause was suspected to be a candle but looking at it using a third eye, he did not believe so.

He did not take the narrative of a candle as the main cause of the fire, there was more to it and demanded that proper investigation must be done.

“Mary Wandia Migwi a devoted cop in my home area Elementaita, Gilgil Constituency, Nakuru County.

She is a family friend. She calls me brother and I call her big sister. Not once or twice I have drop her in her home place Pakawa near pipeline.

I was so shocked when I heard this devastating news. More to that, Ann Wairimu Chahira, the House Manager, is a daughter to my good friend Mzee Chahira-Miti Mingi.

Life is so precious, losing three children and the house Manager at once is not normal. Mary Wairimu 18yrs (House Manager), Leah Njoki 10yrs, Teresia Wanjiru 7yrs4. and Mildred Agal 2yrs.

I call upon the police to do a thorough investigation. The cause is suspected to be a candle but looking it using a third eye, personally I do not believe so.

Fire started by a candle always begin from somewhere, I mean from one room. A 18 years old lady could have felt the effect of encroaching fire via smoke.

It is suspected they went to sleep by 9:00pm and at 10:00pm they were all burnt beyond recognition.

Personally, I do not take the narrative of a candle as the main cause of the fire, there is more to this. PROPER INVESTIGATION MUST BE DONE.

Phanton Analo, Nakuru County Deputy Police Commander, said that police officers were informed about the fire incident at Nairobi Road Estate, about 4 kilometers west of the station.

Officers rushed to the scene and alerted Nakuru County Fire Department personnel, who arrived and extinguished the fire.

Four bodies were discovered burnt beyond recognition after inspecting the completely destroyed house.

Mary Wairimu, 18, (maid), Leah Njoki, 10, Teresia Wanjiru, 7, and Mildred Agal, 2, were identified as the victims.

The corpses were taken to the Nakuru County Government Morgue, where they will be autopsied.

The home, which had been rented out to a police officer three days before, was discovered to be without electricity.

According to Teresia Nyokabi of Pakawa in Nakuru, where the accident occurred, the fire began about 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Smoke billowing from the building alerted the neighbors who broke down the door, but they had no idea there were people inside.

“We noticed smoke but couldn’t figure out where it was coming from; by the time we realized the house was on fire, it was too late.” We had no idea anyone was in the house at the time.” Mwangi explained.
