Anger over racism in the Czech Republic – The unfortunate man, about 40 years old, is arrested, thrown to the ground and then a police officer kneels on his neck – Unjustly accused of burglary
A case reminiscent of the inconceivable act of police violence in Minneapolis, USA, with the white policeman pressing for nine minutes, with his knee, George Floyd ‘s neck , unfolded in the Czech Republic , sparking a storm of reactions.
Footage shows a police officer kneeling on the neck of a man from Romania, who later died in an ambulance while being transported to hospital.
The video, released June 19 , shows three police officers in the northern town of Telpice arresting a man and throwing him to the ground.
One of the officers holds his legs in custody, the other kneels on his neck and the third immobilizes him with handcuffs.
In the angry video, many Roma voices are heard. “They are drowning him,” a woman can be heard saying.
“This is the role of the police,” said another man, supporting the police.
Activist and leader of the Roma organization, Joseph Miker, speaking to the Guardian, told the unfortunate man who ended up due to the violence of the authorities, that he was about 40 years old, his name was Stanislav and that he worked as a guard in a supermarket.
When he saw another man breaking into a car, he intervened. The police immediately thought he was the perpetrator and treated him as a burglar.
The racism that haunts the Roma in the Czech Republic was also reflected in an Amnesty International report in 2015.
