Must read

His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta arrive at the Moi Barracks Recruits Training School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County for this year’s passing-out parade ceremony of the Kenya Defence Forces Recruits.

Members of the public are hereby informed that in keeping with COVID 19 regulations on gatherings, the event will not be open to the public.

The Head of State had been away in Glasgow where he led talks on Africa’s role in tackling the climate crisis at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

Uhuru jetted back on Thursday ahead of the planned pass out where thousands of recruits are expected to graduate after months of rigorous training.

The training programme is aimed at converting them from civilians to Kenya Defence Forces soldiers.

This is the third time in the events history the public has been barred from attending the colourful event amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The recruits are charged with the duty of protecting the nation from assailants and intruders…The training they have undergone is to empower them with the skills necessary to solve this problem.

The continuous participation of the military in missions reflects the confidence that the international community, through the United Nations and the Security Council, in particular, has in our Nation’s Defence Forces.

It is a true testimony of the high standards of military training and professionalism.

There is a growing number of women joining KDF who undergo the 8-month training.

The President is expected to award the best combat marksman.

The pass out parade is expected to be attended by Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and Governor Jackson Mandago (Uasin Gishu)
