Quarry workers decry alleged neglect by government

Must read

The Covid-19 Pandemic has impacted most terribly on quarry workers of Miugune-Buuri with the workers reporting widespread hunger during the lockdowns imposed by the government of Kenya as part of Covid-19 mitigation measures.

The quarry men blamed the county government of Meru for the handling of a wide range of issues including the economic fallout of the pandemic.

The workers told Baite Tv that they had been yearning for assistance and improvement but did not have the voice to convey their message to the government.

According to Kinyua, the quarry workers are suffering greatly as a result of the meager earnings from ballast crushing.

He said that Brokers buy ballast from the quarry at low prices which could not sustain their living

Kinyua implored the government to purchase crushed ballast from them when they have construction projects. He also requested that the government provide the workers with a ballast crusher.

Another ballast crusher, Dennis told Baite Tv requested the government to assist them with the funds that were allocated for Covid-19.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that Meru County ranked first in the misuse of Covid-19 funds, and we never saw a dime of it,” he said.
