ODM leader Raila Odinga is strategizing to protect his Coastal political stronghold against the abduction of Deputy President William Ruto.

The circles have suggested that there are some ODM rebels, who have begun showing signs of wanting to return to the party after Mr Odinga visited Malindi yesterday, where he was invited by Assistant Devolution Minister Gideon Mung’aro.

“Some want to return to ODM. Of those who want the governorship right now I am the only one in ODM. I say they are not there because they have already given their positions, ”said Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi.

‘THE STRONG FORM’

Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo stressed that the county was still an ODM stronghold and criticized supporters of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by Dr Ruto for starting early campaigns.

On Monday, Mr Odinga was accompanied by various party leaders for a visit to Tana River County where he held a public meeting after reviewing development projects. Later that night he was at another private meeting in Mombasa attended by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya, Mombasa Deputy Governor William Kingi and MPs Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita) and Junet Mohamed (East Sun).

Meanwhile, Coast region officials have nominated Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho as ODM’s running mate Raila Odinga in next year’s elections. Speaking in Kilifi County yesterday, the politicians said the move would enable the party to emerge in a better position. forming the next government.

According to them, Mr Joho has already gained strong national support in the years he has served as governor and deputy leader of ODM. The governor had already registered to run for the ODM ticket to run for the presidency in 2022 but there is pressure on Mr Odinga to step down.

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire said Coast politicians were talking to Mr Joho about the issue. He was backed by Kilifi Senator, Mr Stewart Madzayo. who said the people would like Mr Odinga to run for president through ODM.
