The immense confidence that Deputy President William Ruto has in place to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite the thresholds ahead of him, is one of the main reasons why he is feared by other political leaders in the country.
So far, Dr Ruto has not stated any intention of forming a political alliance with other dignitaries.
In an interview with a radio station last week, Dr Ruto said he would not “form tribal alliances”, emphasizing that this was not his ‘Hustler Nation’ wing strategy.
However, political analysts say the main problem facing Dr Ruto is President Kenyatta’s promise that he will support him as his successor for ten years by the end of his 2022 term.
In 2016, President Kenyatta said after completing a ten-year term, he would support Dr Ruto to lead the country for another 10 years as well.
“Dr Ruto seems to be adamant that President Kenyatta must keep his promise. He believes the President deserves to ‘give him back’ by campaigning for him in 2013 and 2017, “said political analyst Mark Bichachi.
He says that belief is what led him to form the ‘Tangatanga’ group, the main goal being to show he has the ability to gain support without the support of the President.

“When he reiterates that his wing has the people and God, it is a sign of complete loss of faith to gain the support of the government, contrary to what it was before their relationship with President Kenyatta deteriorated. It is this position that also reflects the tragedy that some of its political allies have been going through, ”said Mr Bichachi.
