While delivering a cheque for Ksh 300,080 to the Kilindo self-help group, Bishop Hon. Kawira Mwangaza stated that she understood the problems they were facing during the pandemic and decided to assist them.
She stated that despite the offices of the MCA, MP, and governor in Meru county being allocated a lot more money than hers, she will improve the lives of the children in Meru county children with the small budget allocated to her office.
Bishop Hon Kawira Mwangaza did a research survey and found out that there are over 25 self-help groups in Kirimanchuuma alone and over 10,000 self-help groups in Meru County.
She said that a budget for the self-help groups is allocated to the offices of all elected leaders in Meru county and that her office is allocated Ksh 1 million per ward, while the governor’s office is allocated Ksh 250 million per ward. She urged the remaining five elected leaders to also assist the self-help groups.
She stated that the problems people in Meru county are experiencing are as a result of poor management of public funds. She requested the youth, who are able to comprehend to inform their parents that the Meru county government receives more than Ksh 10 billion each fiscal year.
The office of the Meru County Women Representative, on the other hand, does not receive the Ksh 63 million that it is entitled to each fiscal year. Not forgetting the Ksh 63 million has been budgeted for self-help groups, construction, miscellaneous, and improving the lives of Meru children.
She stated that in a ward, her office is allocated Ksh 1 million, the MCA is allocated Ksh 20 million, the MP is allocated Ksh 30 million, and the governor is allocated Ksh 250 million.
Bishop Hon Kawira Mwangaza was perplexed as to why the county officials’, beginning with Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi and other senior county government officials discourages her from revealing the budget allocations.
She, on the other hand, declared that she would never remain silent because she is the voice of the people of Meru County.
