Residents of Matuuru in Buuri urged the Meru county government, led by Governor Kiraitu, to drill a borehole for them because the village is located on a mountain and has limited access to water.
According to the residents, their children perfomed poorly in the 2020 KCPE examinations because they were too busy after school gathering firewood to use as a source of light.
“I’ve been fetching water and carrying it on my back since I moved here in 2019. We sometimes return empty-handed after borrowing water.
We haven’t worn masks or washed our hands because we don’t realize how important it is. We don’t have even the smallest amount of assistance.
We implore Governor Kiraitu to provide us with water and repair the deplorable state of the roads,” One of the residents told BaiteTv.
Another resident, Mwiti said: “When we complain about the poor, deplorable condition of the roads or the lack of electricity, the government should understand that we are not playing politics. We want development and do not wish to see leadership feuds escalating.
Leaders should come and see for themselves that cars must be left on the main road that is connecting to the village and that electricity reaches both Nchoroiboro and Tutwa, leaving us in the middle.
BaiteTv has come to Mashinani to listen to our concerns, which we are very grateful for. We really appreciate them voicing our concerns, and we believe that our leaders will hear us out and help us.”
