The deceased was depressed for the last few days, says an eyewitness.
A 20-year-old man has committed suicide in Meru County apparently out of frustration, says police.
The deceased hung himself from a tree with a shoelace at his family land in Antubetwe village. Laare Police declared him dead when they arrived on the scene.
“We received a report of a suicide, and when we arrived on the scene, we confirmed the reports. I encourage young people who are experiencing stress to seek counseling or to speak up instead of committing suicide. The incident would not have occurred if the counselors were located close to the members of the community,” said Laare OCS, Ezra Sambo.
According to Sambo, If the deceased’s parents had kept a close eye on him, especially after the attempted arson, a solution would have been found and the suicide incident would not have occurred.
“Stress is a deadly disease, but there are alternative treatments available. The community has lost a young soul who could have grown into an important member of the community on whom it could have relied in the future. My condolences go out to the members of the community, as well as the kin’s parents and family,” said Sambo.
An eyewitness said the deceased lived a troubled life and would isolate himself indoors.
“I urge the general public to seek counseling when they are distressed in life and to avoid committing suicide,” an eyewitness said.
He said that there was an incident in which he locked himself inside and set fire to the house.
