After allegedly being attacked by their father at their Ziwani estate home in Nyandarua County, two children, ages seven and one, are currently hospitalised to the Nyahururu County hospital with several knife stab wounds.
Ken Mburu, their father, was also brought to the same clinic under police guard after attempting to commit himself with the same knife.
During the Saturday late evening event, the man also lit their house on fire, causing considerable damage.
It’s unclear when the man went mad and stabbed the two minors, both girls, but Martha Nyambura, who was gone at the time, speculated that it could have been an intensification of their feud over building a kennel for a dog Ken had brought the day before.
“He had come home with a dog the previous night and demanded that I cater for the construction of its kennel but I refused. I left my children playing in the compound only for me to return home and find a multitude gathering there,” she said.
The seven-year-old girl was stabbed 10 times in the back with a knife, while the one-year-old girl was stabbed five times in the back.
When neighbors invaded the compound and tried to lynch him, the suspect stabbed himself in the stomach and chest before fleeing by jumping over the face.
He had managed to start a fire inside the house using the family gas cylinder by the time he fled, but the fire had completely destroyed the property by the time a fire engine from the Laikipia County government arrived from Nyahururu town to rescue him.
