The bodies of six people were found hanging from a bridge and a tree in central Mexico, in an area plagued by gang violence, the second such incident in less than a week.
Three of the victims were hung on the bridge and the rest on a tree, according to a statement issued by the Zakatekas State Public Security Secretariat. Two other bodies were later found on a property in a nearby community.
On November 18 in the same State 10 people were found hanging on a bridge. The killings are attributed to gangs operating in the area.
The recent escalation of violence is the result of a dispute between two gangs claiming control of the drug trade in the area, according to a government official who asked not to be named.
At least 948 people have been killed in violence since the beginning of the year in Zakatekas, 342 more than last year.
