Six police officers have finally been charged with the murder of two brothers in Kianjokoma, Embu County.
The six; Benson Mbuthia, Consolota Kariuki, Nicholas Cheruiyot, Martin Wanyama, Lilian Cherono and James Mwanikiwere were charged with two counts of murder each.

They pleaded not guilty before justice Daniel Ogembo.
The accused wanted an inquest be conducted first before they take plea an application that was opposed by the prosecution.

The suspects had not taken plea since they were first arraigned on August 17.
They had been detained at Capitol Hill police station pending conclusion of investigations.
Earlier the lawyers who had been appointed by the State to represent the accused withdrew from representing them after it emerged that the six had hired other lawyers to represent them.

Meanwhile the prosecution has asked the court to have the four male officers be remanded at Industrial Area while their female counterparts be held at Lang’ata Women’s Prison pending any application before the court .
Lawyer Danstan Omari said that they have no objection as to where they want the accused be detained.

He also asked the court to grant the accused persons bail.
The court directed that the hearing of the bail application be conducted on September 22.
