The Senate called a Special Session to discuss the BBI report after Meru Senator Mithika Linturi was allegedly arrested.
Speaker Ken Lusaka called a 30-minute recess on Wednesday afternoon to investigate why the senator had been arrested.
“Because of the gravity of the situation and what has been requested, I am suspending the house for 30 minutes, during which time I will investigate what has happened, and even after we have investigated, I would like to direct the National Security Committee to investigate as a precaution, so that this does not happen again to any member of this house,” the Speaker remarked as he adjourned the meeting.
Senator Mithika Linturi has finally been released.
“It has not been a pleasant experience to be in the hands of my brother Kinoti for a few hours,” Linturi said.
He described how he arrived home to find officers in three cars, all armed, waiting for him.
Linturi went on to say that he has been summoned to appear before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at 9 a.m. on Thursday (tomorrow).
