Speaker Muturi’s crowning as Mt Kenya spokesman slammed by elders.

The crowning of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi as Mt Kenya’s spokesman has been criticized by a group of elders in the region.

The elders cleansed Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine on Friday to negate Muturi’s crowning, claiming that the ceremony had been mishandled.

The cleansing ceremony took place just two weeks after Muturi was crowned as the GEMA communities’ representative at a temple in Murang’a.

During Muturi’s coronation, persons who were not permitted to visit the shrine infiltrated the hallowed space, causing the temple to be abused.

Dominic Ng’era, speaking after the cleansing process, said it was inappropriate for Speaker Muturi to be positioned as spokesperson at the shrine, which is intended for traditional prayers.

The elders requested that the county government serve as the shrine’s caretaker, ensuring that only those who are permitted to access the shrine do so.

Elders from Kiama Kia-ma and the Kikuyu Council of Elders performed the purification.

Ndungu Gaithuma, Chairman of Kiama Kia-ma, slammed those who crowned Muturi, claiming that President Uhuru Kenyatta is Mount Kenya’s representative.

The elders met at Mumbi grounds in Murang’a town for prayers after cleaning the shrine, an event that was attended by Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria.

Wa Ira, speaking on behalf of the Kikuyu community, stated that they only acknowledge the president as their leader and spokesperson, disregarding Muturi’s installation.
