Suspected thief killed in a lynch mob attack

Must read

Members of a community apprehended and thrashed a man, suspecting him to be a member of a local gang.

The suspected thief was killed in a lynch mob attack at Ithaa Athiru village in Tigania, Meru County.

According to an eyewitness, a gang of local thieves became notorious for stealing goats and Miraa from people’s farms.

“The lack of response from our MCA after members of the community delivered a message to him demanding that he schedule a meeting with the D.C. and other top security authorities to discuss the insecurity in the community can be attributed to the rampant incidences of theft in the community,” said an eyewitness.

“After receiving no response, members of the community convened a meeting and chose four men to warn the theft suspects that if they continued to steal, they would be lynched,’ said an eyewitness.

“Two members of the community’s goats were recently stolen and butchered by a gang of robbers. Even after getting the warning, one of the named suspects was captured stealing Miraa and lynched,” said an eyewitness.

“We’ve arranged another meeting to discuss capturing and lynching three of the other seven suspects if they don’t report to the chief and swear to stop stealing,” said an eyewitness.

The eyewitness added that parents are assessing their losses and confronting the issue of paying school fees for their children as a result of Miraa crop theft.
