Schools in Afghanistan will be open to boys from tomorrow, Saturday, the Taliban’s education ministry said in a statement, saying there was no word on when the girls might be able to return to their classes.
More than a month after the Taliban took over the capital Kabul , most educational institutions have remained closed as the organization seeks to restart the economy and restore normal life in the cities.
In some of the schools that managed to operate, the girls up to the sixth grade were able to attend and the students returned to university. But high schools for girls remained closed.
Taliban officials have said they will not repeat the fundamentalist policies of the previous Taliban government, which banned girls’ education, and promised that girls would be able to study if they did so in separate classes for boys.
Although the Taliban did not order the schools to be closed after taking power, the group has said the security situation means many activities for women and girls are not possible at the moment and the latest announcement made no mention of girls.
There, it is emphasized that public and private schools in primary and secondary education, as well as the official madrasa religious schools will open from tomorrow. “All teachers and male students should attend school,” it said .
