Ten people have been killed and more than 1,500 displaced by a severe storm that hit the Gambia on Wednesday night, the head of the West African small country’s disaster management service said on Thursday.
The head of the service, Sana Daaba, clarified to the French Agency that the Authorities found temporary shelter for 1,531 victims in mosques and public buildings after the storm.

The extent of the damage remains to be determined, but in several areas the electricity and water supply have been cut off, the Gambian presidency said in a press release.
The smallest country in mainland Africa has a population of about 2 million, mostly Muslims.
