Thamare Mixed Day Secondary School Pass Rate Rising

Must read

The majority of mixed-day secondary high school candidates who sat for KCSE in 2020 performed very well compared to 2019 and past years.

It came as a surprise when one of the mixed-day secondary schools, Thamare Mixed Day Secondary School, located in Igembe North near Maua Town, Meru County, emerged best improved in Igembe North Constituency.

For many years the mixed-day secondary high schools had not performed very well in KCSE exams in Meru but last year they amazed their counterpart Kenyan schools by posting sterling results.

Many candidates scooped admissions to join university directly under Kenya university and colleges central placement (KUCCPS), while others qualified for diplomas in colleges and TVET admission.

According to KCSE Performance Analysis for 2020 obtained by Thamare Mixed Day Secondary School, the general mean score for 2020 was 3.64. An improvement was posted in the total mean score compared to the previous year.

“Six out of the total number of candidates who sat for the 2020 KCSE posted between grade B (plain) and C+ (plus), scooping admissions to join university directly under Kenya university and colleges central placement (KUCCPS). 6 C (plain) out of the total candidates who sat for the 2020 KCSE qualified for diplomas and TVET admission,” said Mr. David, a teacher at Thamare Mixed Day Secondary School.

“I’ve been in this school since 2017. My advice to parents is to accept and appreciate their children’s accomplishments. The issue with parents is that they want their children to get an A. With that low D-grade, they could enroll in tertiary institutions and learn in-demand skills like tailoring or wielding,” he added.

Thamare Mixed Day Secondary School, PTA chair, Mr. Kaberia, said that better results were realized courtesy of the hard work, commitment and bee-like dedication from teachers, parents, all stakeholders concerned and learners themselves.

The general performance given by Thamare Mixed Day Secondary School last year is all the more impressive given the challenges facing secondary schools.

Facilities are inadequate and resources have been scaled down. In general, Mixed Day Secondary Schools lack sufficient school supplies, stationery and other professional records.
