Drugs were later found in other branches of the supermarket chain
Employees of the Carrefour supermarket chain in Warsaw could not believe their eyes, as they found suspicious packages in a consignment of bananas, which later turned out to contain cocaine.
“They immediately notified the police, who confiscated the products and launched an investigation,” the company told Reuters, adding that it was working with Polish authorities.
According to Warsaw police, the packages contained more than 160kg of cocaine, worth 30 million zlotys (about 8m euros).
Drugs were later found in other branches of the chain.
The Polish news agency PAP reported that the first parcels were found in a store in the center of Warsaw and that others were later found in other stores in the capital and neighboring areas.
