A motorist in Meru Town has been arrested, after the car that he was in hit a Traffic Police motorcycle.
The traffic police officer was patrolling along the vicinity of Meru-Makutano road when he signaled for the driver to stop his car along the roadside to conduct a check.
“The driver pulled over to the side of the road and got out to speak with the officer. After what seemed to be a disagreement between the two, the driver attempted to get away from the officer who had grabbed his shirt,” an eyewitness said.
Instead of complying with instructions, the driver got into his car after running out of options and as he reversed, he knocked down the Traffic Police motorcycle plunging it into a trench, according to an eyewitness.
The car then came to a halt after the police officer moved ahead managed to grab the car keys.
“The fact that the motorist attempted to assault the police officer startled me. If eyewitnesses hadn’t intervened, he would have assaulted him,” an eyewitness said.
He urged motorists caught breaking the law to avoid resisting arrest.
On August 10, a police officer suffered major injuries when a boda boda rider deliberately ran him down with a motorcycle along Meru-Makutano road in Meru County.
The officer was walking along the road near the intersection of Meru-Makutano road and the road leading to Meru Level 5 hospital when the boda boda rider struck him before taking off, An eyewitness said.
Eyewitnesses successfully caught the rider after he tried to flee.
The motorcyclist was taken into custody and the police officer rushed to hospital with possible broken bones.
