A man and a woman were killed in a shooting in the center of the German city of Espelkamp and the perpetrator escaped arrest, police said, adding that initial investigations did not indicate terrorism.
According to police, one victim was killed inside the house and the other just outside it.
“As things stand, it seems to be a crime rather than terrorism,” a police spokesman said.
The Bild newspaper reported earlier that police said the incident appeared to involve someone who was “in a state of amok”. According to the newspaper report, members of the special police forces are at the scene.
Espelkamp, a city of about 20,000, is located in the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
