The United Democratic Alliance has accused the ODM Party of being behind the stoning of the Deputy President William Ruto’s campaign entourage at Kondele, Kisumu County.
In a statement, UDA Chairman Johnstone Muthama now wants IEBC to disqualify ODM from participating in 2022 polls over the chaos.
Muthama says the stoning is a wake up call to the institutions charged with ensuring a peaceful election and transition next year.
“It’s a day that reminded peace loving Kenyans that the dark days of ‘KANU Zones’ when opposition political parties were barred from campaigning in some parts of the Country are far from over,” He said.
Muthama accuses the Kenya Police and the National Cohesion and Integration Committee of failing in their mandate saying the incident comes in the wake of another incident where ODM Presidential candidate Jimmi Wanjigi was stoned in Migori.
Reacting to a statement by the police on the Kondele chaos saying DP Ruto had been warned of the chaos, Muthama said, “The question the police should answer is when did they know about the chaos and what did they do to stop the same.”
He said NCIC has been a lethargic entity and should have by now arrested an emerging pattern where certain politicians are using words that can be construed to incite Kenyans.
Speaking separately MPs affiliated to UDA condemned the incident saying DP Ruto has a right to tour each part of the Country without fear and intimidation.
They called out the Inspector General of Police accusing him of failing to provide adequate security during the tour saying the police failed in their mandate.
