Three car thieves in Detroit found themselves in front of the absolute anti-theft for the USA and so they ran away like mice leaving their prey intact.
The scene that has been recorded by a security camera and given to the public by the Detroit police is causing grief , with the strange ending that had another car-piracy incident from the many that happen every day in the USA.
Suddenly, three would-be thieves appear at the scene and, with their weapons outstretched, force the passengers to get out of the car and get away . Then they come in and while the usual development of another theft is expected, we see the robbers after a few seconds get out of the car and run like mice to disappear from the spot.
According to the Police report, the reason why the would-be thieves had this reaction was that they found themselves in front of an insurmountable obstacle: the manual gearbox. This particular Acura had a manual transmission, something that the thieves did not anticipate and obviously none of the three knew how to use it.
- 35-year-old crushed to death by 200KG screen in a nightclub
- 38 killed by lightning strike – Among them people taking selfies!
- 39-days-old baby found dead with 71 fractures in his ribs
And if this seems strange to us, it is typical the result of a survey published in America as early as 2016, where only 18% knew how to drive a car with a manual transmission. After five years, this percentage will definitely be even lower , especially now that European manufacturers have surrendered to the ease of use of automatic transmissions.
So is the manual transmission the ultimate anti-theft tool? For the US at least yes! However, with the turn things have taken in the European car industry, do not be surprised if in a few years the good old levers and a third strange pedal do the same job in our parts.
