Jubilee and UDA parties yesterday locked horns in Kiambaa constituency in Kiambu county.
As the campaigns for the July 15th by-election edged towards the home stretch, UDA MPs cited the proposed ODM jubilee merger in calls for a mass exodus from the ruling party and a vote for the UDA candidate in protest.
Jubilee party MPs rubbished the strategy accusing their opponents of a lack of implementable ideas for Kiambaa.
The season for vote hunting is on in Kiambaa constituency Kiambu County. The by-election only barely two weeks away, political parties are out and about.
Jubilee party leaders led by Kiambu governor James Nyoro traversed the constituency and attended four charges to convince worshippers.
“People should not come to carry out tests with you. Don’t agree to be lied to. Candidates are Jubilee party members who haven’t officially written a letter for decamping to the registrar,” said Ngunjiri Wambugu, MP Nyeri Town.
“This is not the time for joining the opposition. This is the time to fight for and remain in the President Uhuru Kenyatta government,” said Kariri NJama, Jubilee party candidate, Kiambaa.
The Jubilee leaders dismissed recent defections especially from the county woman representative Gathoni Wa Muchomba.
“Even if they are popular as they think or as they claim to be, let them quit, go and seek fresh mandate with the new party and we see them being elected,” said Peter Mwathi, MP, Limuru.
Just when the Jubilee brigade left Kiambaa, UDA leaders stormed Mucatha and its environs to drum up support for the hustle candidate.
“As normal citizens, elect your leader John Njuguna Wanjiku who will change the lives of a normal citizen,” said Kipchumba Murkomen, Senator Elgeyo Marakwet.
The leaders used the proposed Jubilee-ODM merger to hype political tensions and rally their supporters to abandon the Jubilee ship.
Campaigns continue today as the parties race against time in such for votes.
