The Meru County Gubernatorial candidates in the August 9, 2022 general elections are Peter Munya, Kiraitu Murungi, and Bishop Kawira Mwangaza.
One of the candidates, Kiraitu, appears to be irritated while the number of his supporters at the grassroots level has plummeted by a large margin.
Kiraitu expresses his rage and remorse in every meeting and event he attends.
In one of the meetings, Kiraitu said that he should not be chastised for siding with ODM party leader Raila.
“I encourage residents to consider my track record, and if no work has been completed, I will retire. Votes are cast by individual voters, and if a voter does not wish to vote for Kiraitu on August 9, 2022, he should vote for another candidate and return home,” Kiraitu said.
In another meeting, Kiraitu seemed to be chest-thumping when he claimed that votes would be cast on ballots rather than at events, Sacco meetings, or on the roadside.
Kiraitu claims that he is Meru County’s longest-serving politician but witnesses residents rejecting him wherever he goes, and others have told him that he must leave office.
“I’ve been in politics longer than M’Angaine, and I’ve never lost an election. I will not be defeated on August 9, 2022,” said Kiraitu.
According to Kiraitu, when he passes through some of the places, some of the residents yell that he must leave office, using the popular phrase NOO PEU.
“I tell them to keep saying NOO PEU because I am still their Governor. This is my 30th year in politics, and I have never lost an election,” said Kiraitu.
Meru County MP Hon. Bishop Kawira Mwangaza has responded to Kiraitu’s claims of chest-thumping and claiming that he has never lost an election.
“Kiraitu, don’t be too proud of yourself. You boast while chest-thumping that in the 30 years you’ve been in politics, you’ve never been defeated. You’ve forgotten that the Bible says David defeated Goliath, who had been at war for more than 50 years,” said Kawira.
Kawira said that Goliath had been in the war for over 55 years and had a well-built body, a large chest the size of a crate, and long arms and legs but was killed by David who had a small body.
“According to Kimeru tradition, a man’s downfall can be caused by a maize comb. Kiraitu and his supporters should stop claiming that he will not be defeated because he has been in politics for 30 years,” said Kawira.
Kawira said that Kiraitu and his camp argued that a woman who removed jiggers from the poor would not defeat Kiraitu.
“Kiraitu’s defeat will be recorded in the history books of Africa and parts of Europe, and no woman other than Murega Baicu’s wife, Hon Bishop Kawira Mwangaza, will be able to defeat him. Kiraitu’s book, in which he insulted me, has yet to be read abroad,” said Kiraitu.
According to Kawira, with the books and news on the internet about Kiraitu’s defeat on August 9, 2022, she encouraged Kiraitu to retire early because his defeat would be chronicled in the history books.
“Meru residents elected me and gave me the mandate to represent them. Over 300,000 voters cast ballots for me as an Independent candidate during the 2017 election day. Residents approached me once more, requesting that I be their Governor because public funds had been stolen, said Kawira.
According to Kawira, residents claimed to be suffering from cancer as a result of sewage spills from hospitals into rivers.
Kiraitu said there was nothing wrong with him going back to the Bus party. He said the bus party was being serviced, new wheels were being purchased, and it would soon arrive in Meru.
“I want young people, women, people with disabilities, and the elderly to join so that it can take us to our desired destination,” said Kiraitu.
Kawira wondered if Kiraitu Murungi’s sense of smell only detected political parties.
She said before anything else, Kiraitu should have smelled the difficulties that the residents of Meru County were facing.
“When he smells and eliminates the problems that Meru County residents are experiencing, we’ll recognize him. We will believe that he has the ability to smell once we have good roads and medicines in hospitals, among other things. He should smell things that aren’t just good for him,” said Kawira.
Kawira said that Kiraitu and his camp had begun using roadshows to intimidate her.
“I’d like to tell him that I’m being protected by God in order to help the Meru child. He should stop scaring me because we’re going to send him home first thing in the morning of August 9, 2022. He should put aside the games he’s playing in the hopes of scaring me because we’ll meet at the ballot. l advise him to withdraw from the early,” said Kawira.
Kawira said that Kiraitu and his political brokers were on record claiming that votes would not be cast but rather counted.
According to Kawira, Kiraitu Murungi and his political brokers used the sentiments to scare people into believing they planned on stealing votes.
“I’d want to inform Kiraitu Murungi that if votes are to be found, Kawira Mwangaza’s votes will be found; if votes are to be cast, Kawira Mwangaza’s votes will be cast; and if votes are to be counted, Kawira Mwangaza’s votes will be counted,” Kawira said.
Kawira said that Kiraitu would not succeed in using threats to manipulate her because his term was coming to an end.
“Kiraitu Murungi should understand that we live in the digital era, and the days of scaring people are long gone. We will compete fiercely and go toe-to-toe at the ballot box,” said Kawira
According to Kawira, she will battle it out with Kiraitu at the ballot box because her track record speaks for itself. She said that Meru residents demanded a track record, not threats from Kiraitu.
