Woman dies by suicide at her home, reason unknown

Must read

A woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree in her residence at Kanathu village in Igembe North Sub-County in Meru County.

The deceased was identified as Flora Kangai. Police said they received a report around 4:00 a.m. that a woman had committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree.

According to her emotional husband, his child came into his bedroom and informed him that she had seen her mother hang from a tree.

“My wife gets up at 5.30 a.m. to milk the cows before boiling water and getting the kids ready for school. She went to the hospital last week and was diagnosed with H-Pylori and Typhoid,” Kangai said.

One of the children said that the night before her mother’s death, she served her tea and delivered the baby’s food she had requested.

“I went to bed after finishing my supper and left them in the dining room. When I awoke in the morning to get ready for school, I saw my mother leave the house and assumed she had gone to milk the cows. My sister came in and told us she found her hanging from a tree, and we burst out crying,” she said.

According to a Nyumbi Kumi member, the deceased was a teacher by profession. He described her as calm, kind, loved by many, and had no quarrels with anyone.

“I am unable to determine what caused her to commit suicide, and I encourage members of the community to speak up when they are facing difficulties. I condemn her actions because her children have been left with their father,” Nyaga said.

Igembe North sub-county police commander Emmanuel Ogada urged members of the community to stay in touch with the deceased kin’s family for the time being.

Ogada said that investigations were underway and that a statement would be issued once they were completed.
