Confusion and shock struck one family in Ua, Kaiti sub county of Makueni county after realizing they took the wrong body from the morgue.
The family observed that they had kept their 80-year-old mother Peninah Kimonyi’s body at Mukuyuni mortuary after her death.
Nevertheless, when they went to pick her body they were not allowed to view the body.
However, on reaching home they noticed they had been given the wrong body and were forced to postpone the funeral which was supposed to be held on Wednesday last week.

Daniel Nguli a family member said that on going back to the mortuary they still could not find the body of their mother.
Nguli expressed fear that the body of their mother could have been given out to another family for burial.
He explained that at the morgue there was no clear log of how bodies were taken out of the facility.
“After paying the service charge the attendant said that we have to pay another sh.500 for washing the body, we paid and on the second day, I went to check the body where he asked for another sh.500 which I paid. When we went to clear the body he refuses to let us see it. They told us that we took the body to the mortuary on the 10th which is confusing since we took it on 14th we even had to show him the papers from the police to confirm the date,” said the man.

They called for the government to intervene and help them find the body of their mother so that they can lay her to rest.
Jane Mbithe a daughter of the deceased said that they checked the body at home and realized that was not their mother.
“Our mother has a visible snake bite mark but this body has none, also she has no upper or lower teeth unlike the body we were given, we realized we had the wrong body and had to take it back,” she said.
The family says that they should be compensated for the loss they have incurred in the past few days.
