A 31-year-old woman and a 2-year-old infant were killed when a fire broke out at a reception center for asylum seekers in central Germany yesterday afternoon, police said.
A 34-year-old man was airlifted to a hospital with severe burns, according to the Oberfranken police department .
The cause of the fire in the center, in the city of Kronach, is still unknown. A criminal investigation is underway.
According to the first data of the investigation, the fire in an apartment in the center broke out early yesterday afternoon, while several asylum seekers were inside.
Due to the damage caused by the fire, asylum seekers were unable to return to the apartments and another roof was temporarily found , according to local officials.
