NIS Given Sh169m Per Day, Uhuru Orders Security Forces To Increase Patrols

Must read

THE GOVERNMENT has been providing Sh169 million daily to the National Intelligence Service (NIS), a recent report showed. Yesterday, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered security forces to intensify patrols in the country.

President Kenyatta urged security officials to intensify patrols, saying there had been an increase in insecurity in the country as the August 9, 2022 General Election campaigns gained momentum.

President Kenyatta issued the order after chairing a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House in Nairobi.

That equates to Sh5 billion a month or Sh169 million a day. “President Kenyatta has instructed domestic security agencies to be vigilant and strengthen patrols across the country,” a statement from the White House said in a statement.

The NIS Department, headed by Mr Philip Kameru, has been allocated Sh45 billion in the budget for the current fiscal year 2021/2022.

Typically, criminals use the campaign season to commit atrocities. On Monday, intelligence officials briefed Deputy President William Ruto on a plot to disrupt a meeting in Kondele, Kisumu.
