Police cruiser flips over in Luciuti; 4 officers injured

Must read

A police vehicle was damaged in a crash in Luciuti village, Igembe, Meru County. The vehicle’s front end was smashed, and debris was strewn across the road.

According to the chief, the police were transporting a suspected bhang peddler to record a statement that he would not be harassed again if the police found no evidence at his house.

He said that the suspect, identified as Kimathi, had not been handcuffed because no evidence supporting the allegations had been gathered at his residence.

According to Lucy, Kimathi was reported to the police by the sub-chief after being suspected of peddling bhang.

“After conducting a thorough search of his home, the police discovered no evidence. They apprehended Kimathi and were on their way to the police station when the driver lost control of the wheel while attempting to avoid crashing into a motorcycle. Despite the fact that four police officers were injured, Kimathi escaped unscathed,” Lucy said.

An eyewitness claimed that the sub-chief had a long-held grudge against Kimathi.

“When the sub-chief arrived at his house that morning, accusing him of peddling bhang and ordering him to open the door for a search, Kimathi refused. He went to the police station and filed a report against him. Kimathi does not steal from members of the community and has never sold bhang. He was falsely accused,” she said..

According to an eyewitness, the police did nothing wrong and were misinformed by the assistant chief.

“His father had pleaded with him not to falsely accuse Kimathi of peddling bhang but he did not listen. The youth in the community have suffered in the hands of the sub-chief when false evidence is planted on them,” he said.

He said that the majority of the young men had relocated to other villages, and those who had been apprehended were not arraigned in court.
