Meru County Women Representative Bishop Hon. Kawira Mwangaza has stated that the time has not yet come for leaders to start asking people to join political parties while speaking at a function at Nguthiru in Mwariama Stadium.
She made her sentiments following several leaders, including Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi, who is advocating for the formation of a new political party.
Two weeks earlier, the Kiraitu Murungi said that the Ameru people needed to form their own political party.
“We must form a political party of the Meru people. There is no way that the Meru people can enter the presidential race and present one of their own without a political party of their own,” said Kiraitu Murungi.
“Other communities have their own political party and they will have a shot at winning the presidential election, leaving behind. We, the Ameru, need our own political party, which is why we are consulting with leaders about forming our own Ameru political party,” he said.
“In the Ukambani region, Kalonzo Musyoka Governor Charity Ngilu, Governor Alfred Mutua, and Senator Moses Wetangula were all recently invited to the statehouse,” he said.
“There was a time when the Ukambani region came together and supported one of their own to run for president. All of the communities in the Ukambani region spoke with one voice and agreed to support one of their own. We must back one of our own from Mount Kenya East to Vie for the presidency,” said Kiraitu Murungi.
While speaking at a function in Nguthiru in Mwariama Stadium, Bishop Hon. Kawira Mwangaza stated that she could form her own political party, but that the time has not yet come, and she urged other leaders to refrain from engaging in political party discussions and instead focus on the work for which they were elected by the people.
“Leaders should refrain from engaging in political party debates because, for example, if a political party is tied around someone’s neck and he carries it around all day and night yet he is lazy, will he be able to help himself?,” said Bishop Hon. Kawira Mwangaza.
“The political party is not the one that does the work because, in Meru County, we have women who are always in need of funding, we have people who are sleeping hungry because I have been to many homes and witnessed families sleeping on an empty stomach, yet leaders are always engaging in political discussions about the formation of new political parties,” she said.
“This is not the time to engage in pointless political debates; rather, God has given us the opportunity to do the work that we were elected to do as leaders by the people. If we could gather all of the political parties, put them in a gunny bag, and deliver them to Kiraitu Murungi, he wouldn’t be able to help himself with them,” she said.
“Even if we could gather all of the political parties, put them in a gunny bag, and deliver them to his house, he would still be unable to start doing the work for which he was elected by the people of Meru. It is not the political party that has prevented the road from being built, as well as the lack of medicines in hospitals and constant cries from the poor for assistance,” she said.
“Even if you are presented with 50 political parties, if you are lazy, you will continue to be lazy and will not perform the work for which you were elected by the people. People should stop bothering us with discussions about the formation of new political parties and instead begin by outlining their track record of development,” she said.
“We are aware of one political party. A party that discusses the awarding and disbursement of bursaries in order to educate needy students, a party that discusses the donation of water storage tanks to communities, a party involved in discussions about the provision and availability of medicines in hospitals,” she said.
Bishop Hon Kawira Mwangaza said that when it comes to the formation of a political party, she is certain that there is no one in Meru County who can challenge her.
