The National Police Service Border Patrol Units (BPU) based at Mangai, Sangailu and Galmagala bases have continuously engaged locals as part of the ongoing Multi-Agency Field Training Exercise in the Boni enclave.

Police Officers at the bases have continued with their local residents engagements with various activities to foster and promote their community relations in the society.

The officers through the local administration, have recently organized a football match with locals and thereafter sensitized the youths on risks of radicalization, terrorism and drug abuse. They also encouraged the youths to come up with initiatives that would improve their social-economic standing.

The Police officers have also distributed face masks at Mangai, food stuffs and water to residents of Sangailu and Galmagala, and sensitized Galmagala residents on matters security and terrorism. The Assistant Chief Mr. Mohamed Salat and Assistant Superintendent Mr. Sasi Mwita encouraged locals to volunteer information on any illegal and suspicious activities in the area.

Speaking during the occasions, Mr. Sasi said, “We do not wish for youth to veer off the right path. It is our duty as a people to inspire them to great heights by pointing them in the right direction. If we all do this we will be assured of a generation, greater than we are.”

Mr. Salat also encouraged locals by reminding them that security was a, “collective responsibility and all of us have a duty to play like it is on a cogwheel.”

It is common practice in the areas BPU are deployed to conduct activities that involve the local communities to maintain good relations and keep the locals away from negative influence.

BPU police officers continue to secure the Boni enclave together with other Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies deployed under Operation Amani Boni while participating in the Multi-Agency Field Training exercise launched by Chief of the Defence Forces, Gen Robert Kibochi last month.
